In the hypnosis world, hypnotists know that the subconscious mind can tell untruths or lie. But to non-hypnotists, that sounds strange, right? Actually, if you think of the subconscious mind as being made up of 100 kids, it makes sense.
I’m not saying the subconscious mind is literally composed of 100 kids; that would make your head a very crowded place. It’s just a metaphorical model.
Here’s my list of untruths, or lies, divided into four categories.
Some may disagree that category one is a lie, but I’m including it as the most innocent untruth. I’ve ranked them from most innocent to the most purposeful lie.
- The kid has a different point-of-view that is inaccurate; he thinks he’s helping you, but he’s hurting you.
- The kid exaggerates.
- The kid omits the full story.
- The kid flat out lies on purpose, knowing it’s a lie.
How often does the kid lie to us? Some people rarely deceive themselves. Some lie to themselves daily. Once upon a time there was a man we’ll call Handsome Harry.
Handsome Harry sleeps around a lot.
The Macho Kid part of him thinks that he’s such a stud, so charming to women. But Realist Kid knows a secret. Realist Kid knows why Macho Kid pushes Harry to sleep around. It’s because… well, read part two to find out.
