An unusual way to eat less of a certain food

Brigham Young University (BYU) has shown that looking at too many food pictures can decrease your enjoyment of food.

When I read this, I thought that it made sense. After all, in real life, when you eat, you’re only looking at your plate part of the time. Looking at many, many photos simulates spending a long time looking at your plate of food.

And the brain gets fooled by this visual exercise.

This isn’t the ideal way to less of a certain food, but it’s interesting research.

A few minutes after I read about the study, I did a quick experiment on myself. I went to www.pinterest.com/search, where I just filled in a type of food in the search box.

And as I saw dozens of photos, I could feel myself getting bored of that type of food. Obviously I’m a sample size of one, but the researchers did the study with over 200 people, each looking at 60 photos.

Try out the experiment yourself, and look at 60+ photos of a certain type of food before you eat it that day. And please post on whether it had an effect on the amount you ate.
